Save The Swilly/Green Party candidate withdraws

A statement issued earlier this week and carried in several media outlets announced that Save The Swilly and the Green Party were jointly fielding a candidate in the Donegal North East constituency.

Dr Peter Doran, the candidate, has withdrawn from the election for professional reasons beyond his control. Save The Swilly chairman Tony Morrison, announcing the withdrawal, said the group was disappointed, especially coming after the group had canvassed a wide range of candidates and permutations of candidates. He thanked the supporters who had presented themselves at the Donegal County Council offices in Lifford on Wednesday to support Dr Doran's nomination.

"The support for our cause was obvious in Lifford on Wednesday, and we now owe it to these people to produce an alternative political strategy," Mr Morrison said.

A further announcement on Save The Swilly's plans will be made during the course of Friday, 3rd May.
